“Current Linguistic Theory
and Research:
Implications for Language
Intervention”
This
engaging and thought provoking session will focus on theory and evidence
based practices for improving clinical outcomes for children with
language impairments regardless of etiology. Keeping up with developments in
linguistics seems an impossible task when added to all the other areas that
demand attention yet knowledge of linguistic theory should inform how we intervene
with students who have language impairments. This presentation will begin with
a tutorial on the dominant current linguistic theory (Chomsky’s Minimalist Program).
Participants will then learn
how to apply the linguistic theory and research to their intervention practices.
Evidence based software will be demonstrated that shows how linguistic theory
and research can inform intervention. The development of this software was supported
by grants from the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders
(NIDCD). Efficacy data will be presented.
All participants will receive
a CD that tests a range of syntax forms and a training module that trains 1st
& 2nd Pronouns and demonstrates how Optimized Intervention® can
deliver services automatically.
